Load U.S. Letter or A4 size, unused, plain paper into the input tray.
Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
Open or search for the HP folder in your list of installed software programs, click the folder for your printer, and then click the name of your printer.
The HP Printer Assistant software opens.
On the HP Printer Assistant window, click Maintain Your Printer.
Click the Device Reports tab, and then click Print Diagnostic Information ().
Also, Try uninstalling the printer drivers from root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software. (Windows Only)
In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
Select your HP printer.
In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device.”
Open up the run command with the “Windows Key + R” key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
Close Devices and Printers.

Ensure that the HP printer cables are properly connected. If in doubt, turn off the printer, unplug it and disconnect all of the printer cables. Plug it back in and reconnect the cables. Turn the printer back on again to see if the error has cleared.
Check the HP printer cartridges and print heads to ensure that they’re installed properly. Also see if the printer cartridges are empty. If the ink cartridges have sufficient ink, reinstall the cartridges and the print heads. If an ink cartridges is empty, replace it with a new one.
Make sure that the HP printer’s software is properly installed. If the device does not respond when you try to print or the printer software won’t initialize, uninstall and reinstall the HP printer software.
